Berth PH1 and PH2 Lighting Tower Pile Installation

Project Overview

Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) required upgrading the lighting at the berthing facility at the Port of Port Hedland. The objective of the project was to install tubular steel-driven piles that support new light towers located behind the working deck of Berths 1 and 2.

The delivery of the works involved mobilising pile-driving equipment, including hammers, an excavator equipped with a pilinggate attachment, and a mobile crane, to drive the piles from the wharf deck.

The piles were driven initially with a crane-suspended vibrator to refusal and thereafter driven to design toe level with a crane-suspended impact hammer.

The works were conducted within an operational port environment with constant stakeholder engagement to minimise berth downtime for the port.
